1. Who is collecting/processing my data?

Moredun Research Institute (MRI) will collect and process the data and act as the data controller.

The Moredun Group privacy notice can be viewed at any time: www.moredun.org.uk/privacy-policy and provides information on how MRI collects and uses your personal information when you take part in one of our research projects.

MRI is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and complies with its obligations under the General Data Protection Regulations by keeping personal data up to date. This is achieved by storing and destroying it securely; by not collecting or retaining excessive amounts of data; by protecting personal data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access and disclosure and by ensuring that appropriate technical measures are in place to protect personal data. Any questions about how we are processing your personal data and your associated rights should be addressed to info@moredun.org.uk.

2. What data is being collected/processed and how will it be used?

As part of this research project we will collect/process the following data:

  1. Your name
  2. Your contact details (email address)
  3. Farm/Holding postcode
  4. Medicine records for individually-identifiable animals

The data will be used to:

a. Quantify patterns of veterinary medicine usage - and hence disease - among beef cattle producers;

b. Investigate associations between medicine usage and animal performance

The first three items will be collected in this survey; transfer of the final item (animal medicine records) will be arranged separately.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

Consent is the lawful basis for processing your personal data for research. By providing this consent, participants agree to their farm location and animal ID numbers being made available to

a. Moredun Research Institute (MRI) research scientists involved in the project.

b. Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) scientists involve in the project.

4. Who will my data be shared with?

Your personal data will only be used for the purposes stated above and will be accessed only by MRI and SRUC research scientists.

For any parties other than the above, the data will be anonymised, ensuring that participants and their farms cannot be identified from it, including in relation to location data and from geographical features. Your personal data will not be shared or disclosed to any other party outside these organisations without your explicit consent.

5. How long will my data be held for?

Your personal data (as described above) will be processed for the duration of the project (01 January 2023 – 31 March 2027). Anonymised data will be securely archived for a maximum of 10 years after the end of the project. All data will remain anonymous and may be published in relevant scientific journals.

6. What will happen if I don’t provide the data?

There are no consequences of not providing data for this research. Participation is voluntary and there will be no financial benefit from taking part.

7. What are my rights, and can I withdraw my consent?
